  1. What is a Photographers.com Profile Page?

The Member Profile Page displays all of your important information conveniently organized on a single page. This provides easy access for visitors without the confusion of having to navigate different pages for viewing of Sample Images, finding your address/location, and other details about you, that assist a potential client in making the determination that you are the correct photographer for their project.

Photographers.com provides what we consider to be the most complete, useful, well-organized, and attractive Photographer's Profile page, of any available on the Internet!

You can have your Photographers.com Profile Page up and running, and showing up in our Search Results, in less time then it would take you to go out for lunch.

A Profile Page only displays information for the sections you have populated with data, while you were logged into your Profile. This data can include:

    Company Name
    Address
    City, State Zip/Postal
    Country
    Telephone
    Fax
    CellPhone
SMS Messaging Number (For receiving text messages on your cell phone)
    Website(s)
    Languages Spoke
    Specialties
    Representatives
    Awards
    Professional Organizations
    Biography
    Client List
From 10 to 30 thumbnail size samples of your Images. One large Image which changes as the mouse moves over the different Thumbnail Images is displayed on the page.

We do not publish your E-mail address on the profile page, or anywhere else on the site. This is to prevent your E-mail address from being collected by spammers. If you want the address published, you can always type it in the Biography section of your Profile.

If someone wishes to E-mail you a message they must use our Message Form. At the very top of the page there is a link for "Write An Email To MemberName" and at the very bottom of the page there is a link for "Contact MemberName".

  3. Why are some Profile Memberships Free and Professional Photographer listings have a cost?

Our Professional Photographer members stand to benefit the most from a listing on the site. We are, after all, primarily about them — it's all in our name "Photographers.com".  A site designed to help photo-buyers locate a Professional Photographer, and then hire them.

A smaller part of our listings "Photo Assistants, Models, Photo Industry Suppliers" are primarily considered as resource sections to further help our Professional Photographer Members, who may need the services provided by these members at some time.

The sections for Art/Creative Directors, and Advertising Agencies were developed to bring additional awareness of Photographers.com to these groups, with the hope that some of them will utilize the services of our Member Photographers.

Our Amateur Photographer section is a separate area from our Professional section. Like many sites that provide free Image Galleries to Amateur Photographers, we are developing a different revenue stream for this section, that will be related to on-line print ordering.

The Professional Photographer Profile Pages do not carry any Google Adsense or other Advertising, whereas all of the Free Profile Pages do.

The free profiles generally come with limited resources compared to the Professional Photographer Profiles but, they can be upgraded to paid profiles that allow for the display of additional Images as well as additional services inventory.

On February 1, 2007 we started converting to a system where those of our Members who stand to benefit the most from a listing on the Website "our Professional Photographer Members", have a choice of 3 different Paid Profile Packages. All of these Packages offer much more extensive benefits then we have had in the past, and are priced at literally a fraction of what our competitors charge, beginning at just $100 for an entire year.  We often have discounts available to further reduce the already low pricing of these plans.

  4. Why is Photographers.com Moving Over to Paid Memberships?

A site that provides "free listings" attracts a certain percentage of inexperienced individuals who would like to get work as a professional photographer, even though many of these individuals lack the ability, consistent quality and experience.

Photographers.com wants to limit the membership to individuals who contribute to the professional caliber reputation of the site. Serious, qualified Professional Photographer's committed to keeping their Contact Information and Profiles Updated — Members that raise the sites level of usability for Photo Buyers.

Feedback from Photo Buyers tells us they want to see photographers portfolio samples quickly, prior to going to the photographer's Web Site for further evaluation, and without first clicking numerous links to get to the photographers Web Site. Our paid memberships provide numerous areas where a Member's photos can be displayed to attract potential clients, and we will be requiring all Professional Photographer Members to upload Portfolio Samples. A member that purchases a listing and does not upload Portfolio Samples within 30 days, will have their payment refunded in full, and their listing deleted. For the site to be a truly effective marketing tool we need the active participation of our Professional Photographer Members.

After 10 years of providing free listings (over 15,000 of them), and a substantial investment in programming, marketing, server equipment and hosting, it is not unreasonable to want to make a return on such an investment.

Photographers.com wants to make sure we can continue to provide the highest level of service and functionality to our members and visitors, while also being able to afford investing in marketing and promoting the site and it's members to photo buyers in the Advertising/Marketing Community - the segment the majority of our Members work in. Our plans include direct E-mail to Photo Buyers and Corporate Executives using fairly expensive purchased E-mail list, direct mail, and for the time being limited size magazine advertisements. Publication vehicles under consideration are magazines targeted at Art/Creative directors and publications targeted towards wedding planning, as a substantial part of our Membership includes Wedding and Event photographers.

  5. What will happen if I don't upgrade to a Paid Photographer Profile?

We feel a certain commitment to our members — some of whom have had a free listing with us for over a decade. Any of these members that decide not to upgrade to a paid profile at this time will be deleted from the Photographers.com directory, but we will be offering to transfer their profiles to a free profile on another Photographers directory we operate.

That directory, like  many of our competitors, will never be able to compete on the same level as Photographers.com and will likely never have the same top Google placement. Simply because it does not have as good of a domain name. It really is quite difficult to compete with the name "Photographers.com", when you are looking to offer a service for locating "Photographers".

  6. How does the value of Photographers.com compare to competitors?

Photographers.com provides what we consider to be the most complete, useful, well-organized, and attractive Photographer's Profile page, of any available on the Internet!

We are a fraction of the price of competitors - see for yourself:

Check out our competitors prices, compare the organization of their data, the number of Images you can display, how easy it is to locate the search and then use it, and most especially the cost. I think you will agree what an exceptional value a Photographers.com Profile pages is!
    http://www.workbook.com/advertise/portfolio-online/photography/
http://www.blackbook.com/adv.php (at the bottom of the page click the link for "Advertising Rates>> Download PDF")
    http://www.photoserve.com/photoserve/info/photographers.jsp
    http://www.bigroster.com/talent_desk.htm

We have some of the best Google and Search Engine placement for key searches of any site.
Would you like to see what Web Site comes up at or near the very top of the major search Engines, when someone searches for the single word "Photographers"?

Try the following searches and compare how far down and how many pages you have to look through to find our competitors.

    Google search for "Photographers"
    Yahoo search for "Photographers"
    MSN search for "Photographers"
    AOL search for "Photographers"
    Lycos search for "Photographers"

It's the most natural name to begin with when searching for photographers. Combine exactly what is being searched for "photographers", with what is undeniably the best domain extension a ".com" (not a .org, .net, .us, cc, .tv, etc.) and you have what we feel is one of the top photographer search domain names, if not the top domain name "PHOTOGRAPHERS.COM"!

Unlike the big search engines, Photographers.com provides a search for finding photographers by a "targeted combination of their Specialty and Geographic Location", so it is much more likely that potential clients will be able to find your listing based on our powerful multiple search criteria, then in the thousands of listings they might receive on a Google or Yahoo search.

No matter where in the world a potential client is located or where on the planet they would like to find a Professional Photographer, they don't have to be aware of the names of the thousands of different photographers directories, often with unknown and difficult to brand names located in countries other then their own — All they have to do is either enter in their Browser URL field, or Google, the exact term of what they are searching for "PHOTOGRAPHERS", and chances are they will be coming directly here to PHOTOGRAPHERS.COM as their very first and most likely final destination!

What better place could there be to search for a Professional Photographer then on a Web Site named "Photographers.com" - a site established in 1995 for precisely this purpose?

  7. In what ways can I search Photographers.com?

    A. Quick Search - http://photographers.com/

The "Search Photographers" section in the top left corner of the Home Page let's you switch between  "Quick Search" and  "Advanced Search" - (Quick Search | Advanced Search).

    Speciality:
    Country:
    State/Region:

Maximum Horizontal Dimension — 9 to 12 Inches   Minimum Horizontal Dimension — 6 Inches
Maximum Vertical Dimension    — 6 to   8 Inches   Minimum Vertical Dimension     — 4 Inches

You only need to upload the large images, we will create the Thumbnail Images automatically. For aesthetic/design reasons we "square crop" the thumbnail images.

(In no event should you upload images with any single dimension greater then 12 inches)

Only RGB Jpeg files should be upload (.jpg extension). We suggest you save your Jpeg files at High Quality and recommend Photoshop Jpeg compression settings between 8 and 11.

  9. How do I Upload Images?

Once you have logged into your profile click one of the links for

    B.  The fastest and easiest way to upload images is to use our "java Drag&Drop Uploader" (Click the link located to the right of "Upload more images" )

You must have Java installed on your computer. Java comes pre-installed on Macintosh and on some Windows computers. If you do not have Java installed you will be prompted to download it from Sun Microsystems.

Our Java uploading applet was written by "Rad Ltd", and you will have to give the Applet permission to run on your computer during the Image Upload Process, by clicking the button labeled "Trust".

Just drag the Jpeg files onto the Window that opens, and you can view a Thumbnail Image of each file as it is uploaded, as well as a progress indication of how much has been uploaded and how much remains to be uploaded.

At the end of the upload refresh your browser window.

(Instructions for Members that have a Profile and a Photographers.com Gallery/Sitebuilder)
Uploading and Managing Gallery Images is very similar to managing Profile Images.

Members with a Gallery have additional tools for managing different attributes of each of their Galleries. This is discussed further down in the FAQ in the section titled Photographers.com GALLERY SITEBUILDER

  10. How do I organize the Images I have uploaded?

Managing the images you have uploaded is nearly identical for each section (Profile Images · Search Results Images · Rotating Thumbnail Images · Visual Search Images).

Click any Image in the top section "Category 1" and drag it down to the bottom section "Category 2".

Arrange the Images in the order you want just by clicking/dragging/dropping.

Log-in and go to: Packages — Purchase a Display Package
(You may also want to review: Packages — Current Packages & Resources · Billing History)

  14. How can I increase my placement in the Search Results?

    1. Photographers.com's Search Results display order is based on a system that rewards a combination of long-term Member Loyalty, the purchase of more expensive packages, and the purchase of additional features such as our Gallery/Sitebuilder.
    2. Members with the highest cumulative total paid over time are displayed before members with a lower cumulative total( a Member on a lower priced plan that has renewed for 3 or 4 years without any lapse will most likely show up higher then a new Member on the most expensive plan).
    3. Upload Images - Listings with Images are displayed before listings without images, so it is important that you upload images.
    4. Within the same level of the cumulative total paid to Photographers.com over time, the most recently edited listings are displayed first. The more often you login and edit your listing, the more often you will appear higher up in the search results.
    5. Purchasing a Gallery in addition to a Profile Page raises your cumulative total.
    6. Keep in mind that using a discount to lower the amount you pay does lower your cumulative total.

  15. What is the additional Geographical Locations Feature?

If you work in multiple Geographic Locations or have Studios located in different cities it is generally beneficial to add them to your Profile.

If you are a Photographer that regularly works London, Paris, Miami  or LA, Tokyo, Sydney, you may want to list all of these as your Geographic Locations, wether you maintain a full-time Studio in each, or just a support team and the use of rental studios
Another use for additional geographic Locations could be a wedding chain operation in a state such as Montana that has 5 or 10 wedding studios located throughout the state.

  16. What is the Nearest Largest Cities feature?

Nearest Large City listings help your listing to be included in many more search results, Based on the distance from your location to one of the nearest large cities.

When you are logged into your listing go to Edit: Profile · Geographic Locations & Nearest Large Cities
You will want to setup at least 1 Nearest Large city (often more) for each of your Geographic Locations.

Example: Your Geographic location is in Hoboken, New Jersey, but you want to make sure you are not only in the search Results when a potential client is searching for Hoboken, but you would also want to be included in searches for the nearest large cities of New York City, Paramus, Hackensack, Atlantic City, etc.

Our Drag&Drop Up-loader will show you a Progress Window of each photo as it is uploaded, and will provide details on how much has already been uploaded and how much remains to be uploaded.

You can easily upload large numbers of photos at one time, but the Maximum File size of all files in a single upload should not exceed 2 Megabytes ( we may raise this file size limit in the future). Currently the largest single file size that can be uploaded is 2MB.

Although we recommend that you keep the maximum number of photos in each of your Galleries to no more then 50, it is possible to upload many more then this, although it will effect the time it takes your gallery to load for visitors that wish to view it.

If you used the "Java Drag&Drop Up-loader" after your images have been uploaded you must refresh your browser window, to update the number of photos that are currently displayed in your Gallery Categories. When manually uploading files using our Form Submission where you individually select each photo to upload, upon completion of the upload the screen with auto-refresh to indicate the current number of photos in each category.

Now that you have Uploaded some photos:

Each category you add will show up on the left side of the "Administrative Page" just beneath "User Categories". When you have more then 1 User Category there will be a Blue Circle with a White Arrow in it that allows you to change the order of your categories, and determines how they will show up later in Visitor View to your Web Portfolio Guest, when they click On "Portfolio" to see the different photography categories you have available.

To the right of every Category you create are 7 Icons that represent different settings you have control over for each of you Categories:
    Rename Category

Upload/Delete - An alternative section for Uploading Photos or for Deleting photos from a Category (To Delete a Photo just click the Red "X"). You can also add a Caption to any of your photos by clicking the link for "click here to add/edit a description"

Image Order - Drag & Drop Images to change their display order or move images from one category to Main Administration Page. When moving Images from one category to another you must select Select Category2, to load a second category from which to move images to/from. After selecting a second category be sure to click the "Change" button to load it.
After making any changes to Image Order or swapping Images between Categories click "Save Changes" to make everything permanent.

Password Protection - If you desire, every Category can have a different Private Login ID & Password, and any Category can be hidden, so it does not show-up in the Drop Down List of Available Portfolios. A great feature when you are working on projects for clients that do not want anything known about the projects, while providing a secure means for your client to quickly Login to a Web Page of the work-in-progress, as you quickly upload Images to this Private Gallery throughout the day. This can also be used to make Custom Portfolios targeted for Specific Clients.

  26. How can I delete my Profile from Photographers.com?

If you are no longer engaged in Professional Photography or would like to have your listing removed from our Worldwide Directory of Professional Photographers for some other reason:

    Please try this method first:

    •Login to Photographers.com
    • If you have not been to Photographers.com for some time, upon logging in you must first agree to our "Member Terms/Agreement".
    • At the bottom of the next page select: "Option 2: If you are not interested in a Profile Package at this time click the button and your listing will be deleted from our Database."
    • If you were able to Login and bypass the "Member Terms/Agreement"  because you have previously completed this step, go to Packages: Current Packages & Resources · Purchase a Display Package and at the bottom of the page you will find "Option 2: If you are not interested in a Profile Package at this time click the button and your listing will be deleted from our Database."
    • On the following "Delete Profile Confirmation page" check the box for "I am not interested in a Photographers.com Paid Professional Photographer Profile with Image Display at this time, please cancel this registration.", and you should receive the Confirmation Message: "Member has been successfully deleted!"

If you have any problem deleting your listing on your own, you may use this second method:

    • Send an E-mail to admin@photographers.com with the Subject "Delete Listing"
    • Be sure to include your:
    • E-mail ID: The primary E-mail address you have listed in your Profile
    • Your full name: First name & last name
    • and your current Telephone Number - so we may properly confirm we are deleting the correct listing.

We will be sorry to see you go, but will always welcome you back!

  27. How can I add a link on my Web Site to Photographers.com?

It would be very much appreciated if you would add a link on your Web Site back to Photographers.com — particularly from your Home Page.

    Examples:

    Text Link:
    <a href="http://photographers.com">Photographers.Com</a>

    Logo Link:
    <a href="http://photographers.com" target="_blank"><img width="235" height="64" src="http://photographers.com/images/logo.jpg" alt="Photographers.Com" border="0"/></a>

This helps in keeping Photographers.com listed at the top of the search engines, which benefits all of the Members, including you.

  28. What is the refund policy?

On a new Yearly Plan we offer a Full 100% Refund during your first 30 days with no pro-rated usage charges. Refunds following your first 30 day are subject to a pro-rated refund and a $10 Administrative Fee to cover the manual processing of the refund, and the time required for communicating with the Member. The Pro-rated charges are calculated by dividing the Amount Paid by 12 Months, and then charging only for each full and any partial month used.

If the charge was a result of an auto-renewal following the end of a previous years paid membership, and you did not intend to renew, the refund must be requested with 60 days of the charge. This should provide sufficient time for you to review your credit card statement.

There are no refunds on Monthly Payment Plans - just cancel your plan, by deleting your Member Listing, before the renewal date of the next month.

If you have a special situation please contact admin@photographers.com, and we will do everything we can to accommodate your situation.  Phone (954)433.8888 - Eastern USA Time Zone.
